Hojbjerg shares wisdom with Under-18s in superb Q&A

Tue 08 December 2020, 17:19|Tottenham Hotspur

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg today took time out of his schedule to take part in a special Q&A session with our Under-18s squad at Hotspur Way.

The central midfielder shared a fascinating insight with our youngsters about how he started out, moving away from home in Denmark to join Bayern Munich at a young age, and detailed how he’s dealt with any setbacks he’s encountered throughout his professional career to get to where he is today – ever-present for us in the Premier League since his summer arrival from Southampton and a nominee for the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for November.

In an engaging session led by Head of Player Development Ryan Mason, Pierre then answered some of the players’ questions and gave them some valuable tips on how they can better themselves as they start out on their own footballing journeys.

Ryan said: “Today was excellent – we’re very grateful that Pierre took some time out of his busy schedule to speak to our boys. Obviously it’s important that we get our messages to the players reinforced and it’s so much more powerful when it comes not only from us as the coaching team, but from the current first team players.

“Pierre is a very, very intelligent man, he’s made a massive impression on me and I’m sure all the players as well, because the way he spoke, the passion and the obsession he has for football, it’s admirable, and we’re very lucky that he’s representing our football club. He’s said that the door is always open for our young players to go and speak to him and ask for advice or help – I know that’s the case throughout the first team squad as well – so we’ve got some very good role models at our football club. Pierre is a top professional and a top player and we’re extremely lucky to have been able to hear from him today.”

Romaine Mundle, one of the young players who enjoyed the session, added: “One of the main things I took away from speaking to Pierre was the difference between players who make it and almost make it, and the mental side of the game which pushes you on as much as your talent. What made him stand out even more was some of the stories from earlier in his career when he overcame testing circumstances, and the need to be on your game every single day.”
