Heung-Min Son: "It was a beautiful moment"

There was a magic moment during our 5-0 win against Crvena zvezda. It was nothing to do with goals, assists, skills or saves. Instead, it was the pure connection between player and supporters.
The player was Heung-Min Son, who once again lit up the Champions League stage at the stadium, scoring twice as we went after the Serbian champions in the first half. He was later denied a hat-trick by the post in the second half.
Substituted on 68 minutes, Sonny found himself in front of the East Stand and with new rules stating players substituted have to leave at the nearest point, the South Korean skipper was faced with the walk around the pitch in front of our 17,500-strong South Stand back to the bench.
He received a standing ovation and exchanged high-fives on his way around, a fitting tribute to a player who is now up to fourth in our all-time European goalscoring list with 15 goals.
Here’s how Sonny felt about his moment with the fans. “It was a beautiful feeling,” he said. “I was lucky a little because it was a long way (around the pitch) and I could celebrate with the fans! I’m really, really grateful.
“I know how tough it is for them, how tough it is for us, but they are always here, always supporting us. We need this at the moment.
“I know the supporters are really amazing and it’s the right time to stick together, not just players, the fans as well. We have a big future with this Club so we have to stick together, go hard and do our best, and I’m sure the future will be very positive.”
Sonny was joined by Harry Kane (2) and Erik Lamela on the scoresheet. Erik marked his 200th appearance for us with another two assists. Coincidentally, Sonny took his tally to 199 appearances on Tuesday night.
Asked about the importance of the win and performance, Sonny added: “It was a very important win, the way we played, the way we performed.
“We were aggressive from the start and that’s why we deserved a goal. The cross from Coco (Erik Lamela) and finish from Harry was really good for the first goal. After that, everyone got the confidence back and we played how we wanted. This is the right way and the right attitude and mentality to take forward.”
We’ll look to take that forward to Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday (4.30pm).
