Bowden eyeing all three points in Leasing.com Trophy

Tue 08 October 2019, 09:07|Tottenham Hotspur

Our Development squad are back in Leasing.com Trophy action tonight as they travel to League Two outfit Colchester United (7.30pm).

The encounter will be the second of our three group stage games in this season’s edition of the competition and we’ll be looking to bounce back at the JobServe Community Stadium having narrowly lost out to League One leaders Ipswich (2-1) in our opening match last month.

Like the Tractor Boys, Colchester have also enjoyed a bright start to the 2019/20 season and are currently in a rich vein of form having only lost once in their last 12 games in all competitions, while they also got off to a winning start in our Leasing.com Trophy group, as they sealed a 3-2 victory against Gillingham back in September.

With the U's in such form, midfielder Jamie Bowden is under no illusions that he and his team-mates will face a very tough test this evening, but he remains eager to take all three points in Essex and get our campaign up and running.

We’ve shown that we can really compete with the Football League sides and hopefully we can demonstrate that again tonight.

Jamie Bowden

"Going away to a club like Colchester will be quite a difficult test, but we want to get something out of the game and come away with a positive result," Jamie admitted. "We watched them on Saturday and saw that they’re not just a physical side, but also a very good footballing side who like to get in wide areas and make their way forward from there, so we’re expecting a lot of balls coming into our box and that is something that we will have to deal with.

“Of course, it will be a good experience for us, but we go into every game wanting to win, so if we can take all three points, that’d be great for us. We’ve shown that we can really compete with the Football League sides and hopefully we can demonstrate that again tonight.”

After the game, the midfielder will be heading straight off to Ireland as he is set to link up with their Under-19s side for the first time ahead of a pair of youth international friendlies with Denmark. “My dad and his family are Irish - I’m really excited for it and I’m hoping we can get a win against Denmark and kick-on from there," he added.
