Harry Kane let us into the thought process behind his wonder goal against Juventus.

The striker delivered a stunning late winner from the halfway line in our International Champions Cup (ICC) opener against the Italian champions.

Yet to even just say he scored from halfway doesn’t really do it justice. He wasn’t in space with time to weigh up his options, see Juve’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny off his line and then go for it. Instead, this was premeditated, a seed sown in the back of his mind having watched the first half from the bench.

Knowing that explains where the goal came from. There was absolutely nothing on when Lucas Moura nicked the ball off Adrien Rabiot just inside our half. The ball ran to Harry side on just inside Juve’s half and without looking he swivelled to launch his effort first-time. Szczesny was off his line and was left grasping at thin air as he scrambled back to his goal.

“We actually saw from the bench in the first half… there was a chance where the ball broke and Buffon was a long way off his line,” revealed Harry.

“I had a little look in the second half to see if it was on and once that ball dropped to me I had one thought and that was to give it a go. It was the end of the game, a few tired legs, so I gave it a go. Sometimes they come off and thankfully it did this time!

“It was one of my better goals. It was nice to be out there and to get some minutes under my belt. It was a tough game, very hot and great to finish off the game before it went to penalties.

“These games are good for fitness and it’s nice to win, it’s always important, it breeds energy, breeds confidence and it would be nice if I could do it in the Premier League or Champions League next season!”
