7-0 - our record away win - the stats...

Sat 05 January 2019, 12:38|Tottenham Hotspur

Our 7-0 victory against Tranmere in the FA Cup on Friday night represented our best-ever away win.

It toppled the previous best set at the end of the 2016/17 campaign when we beat Hull City 7-1 at the KC Stadium. That result came just three days after setting another best away mark in the Premier League of 6-1 at Leicester City - Harry Kane scored seven goals in those two games!

Harry was on target again at Prenton Park as we hit our goalscoring straps in the second half.

Indeed, it took until the 40th minute and a bolt from the blue from Serge Aurier to break the deadlock against a well-organised Rovers side.

Three goals in quick succession from Fernando Llorente, Serge again and Heung-Min Son took it to 4-0 before Fernando wrapped up his hat-trick with two goals in as many minutes. Harry came off the bench to complete the scoring and set the record mark of 7-0.

We've had a number of 6-0 away victories going all the way back to another FA Cup win at Oldham in 1933. Oldham feature again via a 6-0 League Cup win more recently in 2004.

Our biggest FA Cup wins

The 7-0 win against Tranmere is the fifth time we've won by a seven-goal margin in the FA Cup - a competition we first entered all the way back in 1894!

Indeed, it's the first time we've won by seven goals since our all-time record scoreline, 13-2 against Crewe in 1960.

Incredibly, that initial fourth round tie ended in a 2-2 draw before we put together what remains our record victory in all competitions in the replay at the Lane. Les Allen led the way with five goals, Bobby Smith grabbed four, Cliff Jones bagged a hat-trick and Tommy Harmer popped up with the 13th, his last goal for Spurs.
