My First Spurs Christmas - Giovani Lo Celso

Mon 23 December 2019, 14:53|Tottenham Hotspur

It’s the last in the series of ‘My First Spurs Christmas’ today, where we catch up with some of this year’s new signings to find out about their plans for the festive period and how they’ve celebrated in the past. Giovani Lo Celso is in the hot seat this time...

Giovani Lo Celso

Argentina international, joined us on loan from Real Betis in August, 2019

What will you do on Christmas Day?
“It’s important to spend time with the family. My family will be flying over to spend Christmas with me in London. It’s an important day to celebrate.”

How does this differ from past Christmases for you?
“It’s the first Christmas I’ll spend away from Argentina. The leagues I previously played in (Argentine Primera Division, French Ligue 1, La Liga in Spain) had a winter break and there were no matches at this time of year. It will therefore be a different Christmas for me as we’ve got lots of games to play.”

It will be different here with a winter climate and plenty of football to be played – I’ll look to make the most of it.

What is traditional at Christmas in Argentina?
“You spend it with family and friends, eat a nice asado (barbecue) and swim in the pool. It will be different here with a winter climate and plenty of football to be played – I’ll look to make the most of it.”

What is your favourite festive meal?
“Vitel toné. It’s a traditional food in Argentina that we eat every year at Christmas. I don’t know if I’ll be having it this year but I’ll enjoy whatever we eat on Christmas Day.”

What do you wish for at Christmas?
“What’s most important is the team winning. It’s a month with plenty of games and we need to look to pick up as many points as we possibly can.”

What was your most memorable gift as a child?
“As a child you hoped for plenty of things at Christmas – my best gift was probably football boots. But what matters now is spending Christmas with family and friends.”

Don’t forget to catch up on the answers of Tanguy Ndombele, Hannah Godfrey, Ryan Sessegnon, Siri Worm and Ria Percival from recent days.
