Women bid fond farewell to some familiar faces

Thu 01 August 2019, 13:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Ahead of the 2019/20 Barclays FA Women's Super League campaign, we can now confirm the departures of nine players from last season's FA Women's Championship promotion-winning squad.

Midfielder Maya Vio, 22, has called time on her football career to focus on her studies in medicine. A player who came up through the ranks with us, Maya started out in the Under-10s and went on to make her senior debut at 16 years old.

Another Spurs stalwart hangs up her boots as Wendy Martin confirms her retirement from football following eight seasons with the Club. The 36-year-old made 168 appearances between 2011 and 2019, scoring 89 times, including a goal at White Hart Lane on a night where we won the FA Women's Premier League South title in 2017.

Bianca Baptiste departs after nine unforgettable seasons at the Club which saw her make 187 appearances, scoring 82 goals in all competitions. Joint top goalscorer with Wendy in 2017, Bianca also scored at the Lane during a hugely successful season which saw us win the quadruple.

Involved in two promotions, defender Reneé Hector leaves after three seasons, registering 80 appearances in all competitions.

Sarah Wiltshire and Ryah Vyse also depart after two seasons with the Club, while Emma Beckett, Emma Gibbon and Anne Meiwald leave after joining us last season.

Karen Hills said: “I’d personally like to thank all the departing players for their commitment, positive attitude and dedication throughout their time with us. It has been an emotional journey both on and off the pitch and we have all made memories that will last a lifetime.”

Juan Amoros said: “It has been extremely difficult for us and we have had to make some tough decisions regarding our squad. I’d like to thank the players who are leaving - they will forever be part of us and the history of this Club.”

We thank them all and wish them the best in the next stage of their careers.
