Giovani grateful for 'incredible' welcome on debut

Mon 19 August 2019, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Giovani Lo Celso has thanked our travelling fans for the rousing reception they gave him on his debut at Manchester City on Saturday.

A deadline day loan signing from Real Betis, the Argentine international replaced fellow countryman Erik Lamela in attacking midfield five minutes from the end of normal time in what was a stern test at the Etihad.

The passionate away end ensured he was made to feel more than welcome in a Spurs shirt and, in the wake of our eventful 2-2 draw, the 23-year-old explained how that support helped him to settle down quickly at a vital stage in the contest.

“It feels very good to have my first game with the Club and I want to say thank you to the fans and the team for welcoming me and congratulations on the game – we got a good point away from home against a very good team,” he said.

“The people who come away to support the team like they did today, it was incredible to feel this and I have to say thanks to all the people who came here to get behind us. It was important for me and for the team collectively.

“It was very positive for me to play my first game against a very good team like Manchester City in a tough game – we played well and it was a good experience for me.”
