Brighton 1-2 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction

Manager delighted with attitude at the Amex

Mauricio Pochettino pointed to the team’s attitude and positive start after the 2-1 win at Brighton on Saturday.

A deserved victory in the rain at the Amex Stadium halted Mauricio’s first run of three-successive losses at the Club and made it four wins in six at the start of the Premier League.

Harry Kane buried a penalty following handball against Glenn Murray to open the scoring just before half-time and Erik Lamela finished a fine move for 2-0 with 15 minutes left.

We could have put the game to bed after that but Brighton responded through Anthony Knockaert in the final minute of added time and still had time for another effort saved by Paulo Gazzaniga in the final seconds. However, anything else but a Spurs win would have been a travesty.

The players wanted to show ‘we are here and we’re going to fight for my team, for my fans, for everyone at the Club’

"The start pleased me the most," said Mauricio. "We took the game in a very good way, the attitude was great, fantastic, the players wanted to show 'we are here and we're going to fight for my team, for my fans, for everyone at the Club' and that’s what we wanted. We need to translate that into every game we play.

"I expected the reaction. We are together. We feel the love between each other and like in all families, sometimes we fight, sometimes we’re disappointed, sometimes we’re upset and all those periods that happen, but the love is there and of course, the relationship is fantastic.

"We have to keep going because we have the quality to win a lot of games."

There was extra praise for goalkeeper Gazzaniga, a late replacement for Michel Vorm who suffered a knee injury in training on Friday.

"Paulo did very well," added Mauricio. "I’m so happy. His performance was fantastic. To play in those conditions...the team was fantastic but the goalkeeper is a difficult job and he showed great qualities."
