Mike Salerno, from New York, has two loves in his life – Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and his long-term girlfriend, Jessica.
He had planned to bring the two together on a special weekend in London by proposing to Jessica at our first game at the new stadium, previously scheduled to be this weekend’s clash with Liverpool.
When the game was moved to Wembley, the Club made arrangements to ensure Mike’s grand plans could proceed.
So, on Sunday, our new stadium played host to its first ever marriage proposal, as Mike popped the question pitchside at our new home.
It came as a complete surprise to Jessica, who was given the premise that the couple had been randomly picked out of supporters attending the previous day’s match against Liverpool to come on a behind-the-scenes tour of the new stadium, with Spurs TV on hand to capture their reaction.
Having been shown around our beautiful concourse areas and out into the stadium bowl, the couple were given an extra treat by being taken pitchside.
And it was here that Mike plucked up the courage to get down on one knee, looking up into the breathtaking 62,000-seat bowl...and into Jessica’s eyes.
With a setting like this, how could Jessica possibly do anything other than say ‘yes’ – and to make the moment even more special, the legendary Ledley King was on hand to be the first to congratulate the happy couple with a celebratory bottle of champagne.
Then it was back up to the Club’s Lilywhite House offices to toast a memorable afternoon in the company of Ledley and other Club staff that helped arrange the occasion.
Jessica said: "I’m in complete shock but this is incredible and I couldn’t have dreamt of a better proposal. We’re so happy.
"Spurs have played a huge part in our relationship, we’ve been to many games and travelled to many places to follow the Club and this is where we were most excited to visit."
Mike added: "I’m just relieved! We’ve been talking about coming here for so long, it’s very exciting, and now we’ve made this stadium a very special place so we’ll be returning for many a game.
"A huge thank you to the Club for making this run so smoothly when there were so many things that could have gone wrong! It’s been absolutely amazing."
Next stop for the happy couple will be a romantic trip to Milan where they will of course be watching their beloved Spurs at the San Siro - as the future Mr and Mrs Salerno!
Many congratulations to both of them from everyone at Tottenham Hotspur.
