Winks ready for Chelsea

Harry looks ahead to Wembley clash

Fri 23 November 2018, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Winks is eager to get back into Spurs action and can’t wait to take on Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Creative midfielder Harry picked up his third international cap at the same venue last week as England toppled the USA 3-0 - now he is ready to switch the white of England for the white of Spurs as we take on the Blues in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has featured in 16 of our 18 games this season - only missing out on our opening day victory away at Newcastle through injury before being an unused substitute in our 2-1 win over Brighton in September. He's not missed a game since that win at the Amex.

It is a run of matches that the Academy graduate hopes to continue as we face a tough run of fixtures this week including the crucial Champions League tie against Inter and Arsenal in the North London derby. It is Chelsea first for us though and Harry knows the importance of this game.

Chelsea will be an important game as we have to try and maintain that winning mentality going into that crucial game against Inter.

“I’m looking forward to it," he said. "It’s a big one that we want to win especially coming back off international duty.

“Chelsea will be an important game as we have to try and maintain that winning mentality going into that crucial game against Inter.

“I’m feeling good, I’m feeling fresh and I’m very happy at the moment. It’s been going well and I’m enjoying everything at the moment and I hope it can continue that way.

His recent run in the team has seen Harry partner a different team-mate in the centre of midfield in each of his last five starts.

The flexibility of our options, however, is something that he feels the squad is very comfortable with after playing alongside each other regularly over the last few seasons.

“Everyone is very used to playing alongside each other - we’ve been doing it for the last few years now,” he explained. “We are more than capable of playing next to each other, no matter who it is, and having that good rapport on the pitch as we’ve shown in the last few matches with the wins we’ve had.”

On international duty last month, Harry partnered Chelsea’s Ross Barkley in the centre of midfield as England produced a terrific display to earn a 3-2 victory over Spain in Seville.

Barkley, like Chelsea, has been revitalised this season and has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign so our man in the middle feels it will be important to keep his Three Lions team-mate quiet in the match.

“Ross a top player, a very powerful player," added 'Winksy'. "He’s been doing really well this year and he’s going to be an important player for them that we have to try and stop at the weekend. We know his game so it will be a case of us trying to nullify the threat he poses.”

Important - new restricted bag policy at Wembley

This is an important notice for our fans regarding the change of bag policy at Wembley Stadium - a policy that will be in place for our Premier League match against Chelsea on Saturday and any subsequent matches we play at the national stadium.
