Defender Meiwald joins Spurs Ladies

Thu 19 July 2018, 17:24|Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs Ladies have bolstered their defence with the signing of Anne Meiwald.

Previously on the books of Arsenal, Chelsea and London Bees, the 23-year-old centre-half becomes the third addition to Karen Hills’ squad ahead of the new season in the restructured FA Women’s Championship, following the arrivals of striker Rianna Dean and winger Megan Wynne from Millwall Lionesses.

“I’m excited to be here,” smiled Anne. “The restructuring of the league will hopefully bring a lot more professionalism into the game, we’ve got new clubs to play which will be interesting and hopefully we can compete again.

“The team showed last season that they could compete in the Women’s Super League 2 and hopefully this season we’ll compete with the best at the top end of the Championship.

“What the club has done well is keep the faith in the players who have brought them up. They’ve also seen where they needed to improve and the players here believe we can do that.”

Anne has a nice manner, great attitude and she’s hungry to succeed.

Manager Karen said: “Anne is only young but she’s experienced and has played at the top level. She’s had that exposure to what is needed at this level.

“We’ve seen already that she has the desire, the willingness to work hard and the passion we require. I believe she’ll help bring the best out of our defence. She has a very good footballing CV, a nice manner, great attitude and she’s hungry to succeed.”
