We will play Tranmere Rovers in the third round of The Emirates FA Cup after the League Two side toppled National League Southport 2-0 in a second round replay on Monday night.

We travel to Prenton Park in Birkenhead on Friday 4 January. Kick-off is 7.45pm and the tie will be broadcast live on BT Sport 2.

Connor Jennings struck both goals for Rovers at Southport's Merseyrail Community Stadium. Micky Mellon's team have come through replays against non-league opposition in the first and second rounds having opened their campaign against National League South Oxford City.

We've played Tranmere eight times in our history and twice previously in the FA Cup.

We drew 1-1 at Prenton Park in the third round in January, 1953, before winning the replay 9-1 at the Lane. Our last match against Rovers was in the fifth round in February, 2002. We won 4-0 at the Lane that day with Gus Poyet (2), Teddy Sheringham and Christian Ziege on target.

Ticket details for the third round tie will follow in due course...
