Christian Eriksen: "1-0 wins gave us confidence"

Thu 27 December 2018, 18:40|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen feels winning a few key matches 1-0 earlier this season has instilled the confidence now coursing through the team.

The likes of Cardiff, West Ham, Palace, Inter in the Champions League and Burnley as recently as 12 days ago have all been beaten by the only goal – Christian scored late winners against Inter and Burnley.

Now we’ve scored 11 goals in two matches over Christmas – 6-2 at Everton, 5-0 against Bournemouth – to extend our run to five straight wins in the Premier League and eight in our last nine as we moved ahead of City in the table on Boxing Day.

Winning 1-0 in a lot of games this season instead of drawing has given us a lot of confidence

It’s our best points tally after 19 games of a Premier League season - 45 - 11 more than last term.

Christian said: “We’re in a very good period. Like I said, everything is going our way like the deflection for my goal (the opener against Bournemouth) - that’s the luck you need sometimes because it will change the game for you.

“Winning 1-0 in a lot of games this season instead of drawing has also given us a lot of confidence.

“Now no-one is talking about us not playing as well, and we’re scoring a lot of goals. At the beginning, people were saying ‘you didn’t play as well’ so times change, football changes and we continue to develop.”

Another interesting point from both Christmas games is that the front four all scored against Everton and then repeated the trick against Bournemouth.

Christian added: “We feel confident going into every game thinking that we’ll create enough chances to score a few goals. It’s always nice to believe that you will score at some point.

“All the balls are flying in - my goal, Sonny’s goal, Lucas - three chances and three goals (against Bournemouth). We have a lot of confidence and we'll keep going, keep pushing, keep creating chances and scoring goals.”
