‘You always want that winning feeling’ – Ho previews Bristol City cup clash
Martin Ho is keen for the players to move quickly on from Saturday’s north London derby loss when we return to Subway Players Cup action at Bristol City on Wednesday (7pm UK, live on SPURSPLAY).
Cathinka Tandberg’s opener was cancelled out by goals either side of half-time as Arsenal escaped with a 2-1 win at the weekend to inflict our third consecutive defeat in the Women’s Super League.
There were clear positive signs in some of our play at the weekend in spite of the result and, for Martin, it’s important that we show a high level of performance on a consistent basis as we look to return to winning ways.
“Sometimes you want to go back on the pitch and do some work on aspects we thought could have been better, but also going straight into another game gives you an opportunity to put those things right quicker, to grow in confidence, enthusiasm and give us some momentum going forward,” Martin told SPURSPLAY on Tuesday.
“We have now a busy period coming up and it's the first game of a busy block. You always want that winning feeling. We will put the strongest team out there that I feel is going to win the game. I want to make sure we push in these cup competitions as I've said before. We’ll respect Bristol City in terms of what they're doing, as they're sitting in a really nice position in their league and they've had a lot of confidence from their games recently in terms of the results they've had so we need to make sure we respect them, which we will, but we’ll also put out a really strong team that will compete in the game.
“We will stick to the clear principles that we have, we will make sure that us as a team is focused on us, we will have an eye on what Bristol City do and their strengths – they have a really good front four and some experienced players in the middle of the pitch – but what we don't take away is our focus on ourselves. We will try and cause them some problems with the areas we feel we can exploit. If we set a high tempo in the game, I feel we will be at our best. We have to make sure that we don't drop our level within the game and we don't drop our level to a position where we have done in previous games. If we perform to the level I know we can, we will come out victorious.”
Supporters will be able to watch Wednesday’s game live on SPURSPLAY.
