“We’re going to see a reaction” – Ella Morris
Ella Morris vows to show a fighting spirit when we take on Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday after a disappointing result at Stamford Bridge.
From one London rival to the next, our Women’s team are looking to bounce back and have the chance to respond in the north London derby in front of a home crowd in N17.
Despite a frustrating outcome in our last two Women’s Super League outings with defeats to London City Lionesses and Chelsea, we head into this weekend’s clash fourth in the table after an impressive September where we picked up 10 points in four games.
The last two results aside, Martin Ho’s side have captivated the WSL this term with some eye-catching attacking displays, including a thumping 7-0 victory at Crystal Palace and a dominant 4-0 win over Aston Villa.
Saturday’s battle with Arsenal is always an exciting match-up but will certainly have more edge to it than ever before as both sides look to get back on track from a disappointing couple of weeks.
Describing the Chelsea performance as ‘not acceptable’, Ella wants to see a reaction when her and her team-mates walk out at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.
“It’s holding each other accountable,” the defender told us, speaking after the game in west London.
“We need to review the game individually, review the game as a team but after that, you put it away and then you put in the graft during the week. I want to see that reaction from me and all the girls.”
After a positive outing in the hour at Stamford Bridge, where Matilda Vinberg got us back on level terms just before the break, the Blues struck three times in nine second-half minutes to condemn us to a 6-2 defeat.
“We started well in the first half and got it back to 1-1,” Ella explained, reflecting on the game. “It's just how we came out in the second half wasn't to our levels. We're aware of that and it's just not acceptable for us to concede that number of goals back-to-back.
“They make it 2-1, and it's how you react after that. I mean, most goals are statistically conceded five minutes after a goal or a restart, so for us, it's how mentally how do we reset and prepare for that because it's not acceptable.
“It’s exceptional, the fans we've had today, so thank you to them for coming out and watching us. Sorry for the performance and the result to them, but next week, I think we're going to show a reaction and we're going to come out fighting. So, as many fans that can get down, we're going to go to try and get that win for you.”
