Solanke on Old Trafford: “The character we showed after going a goal down and a man down was magnificent”
Dominic Solanke described what it was like to see his header hit the back of the net and celebrate in front of our delirious fans at Old Trafford.
“It was so good!” he told us. “It was a bit of relief and enjoyment as well. I missed a few chances, could have had probably three goals, so I really wanted to get on the end of one. It wasn't a bad time to do it…”
It was the perfect time to do it, having dominated for long periods, only to see United take the lads on 72 minutes and then go down to 10 men six minutes later.
Roberto De Zerbi suggested that inspired the team to find another gear and, two minutes into added time, Dominic won the physical battle against Lisandro Martinez to glance home Sandro Tonali’s cross – the least we deserved.
“I think we probably should have been a few goals up going into half-time,” he added. “We played so well in the first half, dominated the game and just wasn't clinical enough.
“That’s something that we definitely need to work on - but the character we showed after going a goal down and a man down was magnificent from everyone.
“It's something that we've spoken about before. There have been times when we go a goal down and we don't react in the right way. So today, going a goal down away from home with 10 men and still managing to get something from the game was great. That mentality is definitely something we can build on.”
