Legacy Numbers introduced for Women's team

• Legacy Numbers will recognise every player to have made a competitive appearance from the start of the 2011/12 season – when Spurs Women entered the national league pyramid
• The initiative reflects the Club’s ‘One Club, Two Teams’ approach and extends the existing Men’s Legacy Numbers programme to the Women’s team
• The Club will provide non-numerical recognition for key figures from the Women’s team’s history prior to 2011, dating back to its formation as Broxbourne Ladies in 1985
• The numbers will first appear on Women’s match shirts for the WSL season opener against West Ham United this Sunday (6 September)

The launch forms part of an ongoing programme of work across the Club aimed at reconnecting with the rich football heritage on which Tottenham Hotspur is built.

Since 2023, every Men’s player to have represented the Club in a senior competitive fixture has been assigned a unique Legacy Number, with current players wearing their number on the back collar of their match shirts and former players receiving commemorative Legacy certificates.

In recognition of the continued progression of Women’s football at the Club and Tottenham Hotspur’s own ‘One Club, Two Teams’ approach, the Club will now extend the initiative to its Women’s team – in turn, becoming the first Women’s Super League club to do so.

Legacy Numbers will be assigned from the start of the 2011/12 season - the point at which the team entered the national league pyramid, following promotion from the London and South-East Regional Leagues to the Women’s Premier League Southern Division. This approach has been agreed following consultation with a committee of current and former players, senior Women’s team management and the Fan Advisory Board.

Formally documented match and appearance records were collated by the Club, and verified with the assistance of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, from our match against West Ham United Women on 21st August, 2011, onwards.

A full list of players and their unique Legacy Numbers are now listed on a dedicated section of the Club’s official website, from No.1, Joanne Ayre, through to our latest recipient, No.183, Hanna Wijk.

The Club is also providing non-numerical recognition for the many key figures in the history of the Women’s first team prior to 2011, dating back to the team’s formation as Broxbourne Ladies in 1985.

The Legacy Numbers will appear on Women’s match shirts from the opening game of the new WSL season against West Ham United on Sunday 6 September, with further players awarded a Legacy Number upon making their senior debut.

It recognises the contribution of those who have worn our colours, celebrates the journey of the Women’s team, and reflects our ambition to continue building one Spurs story across both teams.”

Jenna Schillaci, who made her Spurs Women debut as a 16-year-old in 2000, going on to represent the Club through the eras before captaining the side to our historic WSL promotion in 2019, added: “It is a proud moment to see Tottenham Hotspur recognise the players who have been part of the incredible journey of our women’s team in this way. Every player has contributed to the story of the Club, and Legacy Numbers are a meaningful way to honour that history while inspiring the players who will wear the shirt in the future.”
