View from our legends - Newcastle

What a game this weekend as we welcome Newcastle United to Tottenham on Saturday (5.30pm) - an encounter that has never finished 0-0 in the Premier League era - that's 62 matches!

Previewing the latest Tottenham vs Toon clash two legends who know all about both clubs.

Chris Hughton - 25 years of service to Spurs, 11 as a player, 14 in various coaching/assistant manager roles. Chris later managed Newcastle and led them to promotion from the Championship back to the Premier League in 2009/10.

A Spurs fan, Les Ferdinand was already an elite striker when he joined Newcastle from QPR, enjoying the most prolific seasons of his career in Tyneside - racking up 50 goals in 84 games as the Toon challenged for the Premier League title in 1995/96 and 1996/97 under Kevin Keegan. He joined his boyhood team in 1997, but injuries were never far away as he weighed in with 39 goals in 149 appearances over the next six seasons, winning the League Cup in 1999.

"I expect to see a Newcastle team buoyed by a couple of good results to start the season against Liverpool and West Brom in the Carabao Cup. They were unlucky at home to Liverpool last weekend (Liverpool scored a last-minute penalty to draw 2-2), but they followed that up with a good result (3-2 win) against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, so they will come to Tottenham feeling confident. Spurs will also be up for it after the 5-1 win against Charlton in the Carabao Cup. I would expect a few changes - I'm sure players will come back in, the likes of Tonali, Porro, van de Ven, plus Omar Marmoush is now through the door. I expect Spurs to come out on the front foot, especially after scoring five goals in midweek."

"Newcastle, first game, good performance. They didn't get the win against Liverpool, but certainly the performance was there, so I think they'll come with a fair bit of confidence. They've got a new manager. They've gone a little bit younger. Wissa's back as well, they'll be buoyed by that performance against Liverpool, so I see it being a tough game from Spurs' point of view - fortunately, on the back of a good victory against Charlton on Tuesday night. I think the key is - and will be for the next few games - just about the team gelling together. There's an excitement at the moment because of the new players that have come in, but it can take a little while for everyone to get up to speed, as such. For me, what was important, is that the win against Charlton was at home, getting that home win out of the system early will help lead into Saturday's game. I expect a good game. I expect a tight game - a game I expect that we will come out as winners."
