Archie Gray makes history at Brentford this afternoon.
The defender becomes our youngest ever captain in a competitive fixture at 20 years, 163 days.
That toppled all-time great Steve Perryman's previous record of 20 years and 260 days, set in a UEFA Cup first round, second leg tie against Lyn Oslo on 27 September, 1972.
'Stevie P' - our record appearance maker on 854 between 1969-1986 - took over the armband from Martin Peters in March, 1975 and led the team in over 560 competitive matches - landing two FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.
Archie wore the captain's armband during pre-season and was named by Roberto De Zerbi as one of his five captains in the leadership team on Friday.
Speaking in his pre-match ahead of Brentford, our Head Coach said: "He's very young but he's a big guy, big personality. Great behaviour and he deserves to be the captain today"
Speaking from the Gtech, Roberto De Zerbi said: "Archie is very young but he's a big personality, a great player. Just now, he can't suffer too much pressure because he's an important player for us for a long time."
