Jan Paul van Hecke became the first Spurs goalscorer of the 2026 World Cup after he netted in the Netherlands’ 3-1 win over Tunisia in the early hours of Friday morning – a result that sends them through as winners of Group F.
The defender, who joined us from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month, headed home a corner at the near post on 62 minutes, the ball flicking off a defender on its way into the net.
It restored the Netherlands’ two-goal lead after Hazem Mastouri had got Tunisia off the mark earlier in the second period.
An own goal from Ellyes Skhiri and a further strike from Brian Brobbey had put the Netherlands 2-0 up inside seven minutes in Kansas City.
JP played the full game, while Micky van de Ven was an unused substitute.
The Netherlands will now face Group C runners-up Morocco in Monterrey at 2am UK time on Tuesday.
Congratulations on your progress, JP and Micky!
