Senesi switch sealed
We are delighted to announce the signing of Marcos Senesi.
An experienced Argentina international defender, he will join us on 1 July, subject to international clearance, following the expiration of his contract with AFC Bournemouth.
Marcos said: "It's a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player.
"From the first moment, the Club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It's exciting and something I can't wait to be involved in.
"Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the Club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen."
Sporting Director Johan Lange said: "Marcos is a defender who brings a combination of quality, intelligence and leadership to our squad.
"His experience at the highest level, his composure in possession and his desire to compete for every ball make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play.
"We are delighted to welcome him to the Club and believe this is the perfect place for him as he enters a great stage in his career."
Head Coach Roberto De Zerbi said: "Marcos' experience, quality on the ball, and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively, as well as giving us flexibility in formation.
"He's comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.
"I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I'm looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team."
A physical, left-footed centre-half, Marcos joins us following four impressive seasons with AFC Bournemouth.
Hailing from Concordia, Argentina, he began his career with Buenos Aires giants San Lorenzo, starting in their youth system before progressing to the senior side and making his professional debut in September, 2016.
After a decade in the Argentine capital, he headed to Europe to join Dutch side Feyenoord in 2019 and helped them to the KNVB Cup Final in his first season.
In each of his three campaigns in Rotterdam, he played in European competition, which included playing in all but one of Feyenoord’s 13 matches as they reached the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League Final in 2022.
Moving to England and the Premier League later that year, he joined AFC Bournemouth and has spent the last four years with the seaside club. A key part of the Cherries squad as they have continually climbed the league table, he signed off on the south coast by helping the club secure European football for the first time in its history.
Last term, he enjoyed one of his best campaigns to date. A ball-playing defender, he made over 2,300 passes in the top flight with no outfield player completing more long passes than him (182). Strong at the back and a threat on the attack, no centre-back produced more assists than Marcos while he sat in the Premier League’s top three players for most interceptions, most blocks and most clearances.
An Argentina international since 2022, he has three caps to his name.
Welcome, Marcos!
