Romero set for World Cup defence with Argentina

Cristian Romero has been named in defending champions Argentina's 2026 World Cup squad.

'Cuti' was named in Lionel Scaloni's 26-player squad travelling to United States, Canada and Mexico after playing a key role in their World Cup success four years prior with that penalty shootout win over France.

The 28-year-old centre-back started all bar one game at 2022 Qatar, including every minute of the final, and has since gone on to captain his nation three times across his 49 caps to date.

Our club captain made 32 appearances in all competitions this term - scoring six goals - although was ruled out of our final six Premier League matches through injury.

Argentina are in Group J alongside Algeria, Kevin Danso's Austria and Jordan and begin their title defence against Algeria in Kansas City on Wednesday 17 June (2am UK), before two games in Dallas on 22 June and 28 June.

Prior to that, they face two warm-up friendlies in the USA against Honduras on 7 June before facing Iceland two days later.

Congratulations, Cuti!
