Blakstad: ‘We really showed up, but we need to be more ruthless’

There was a sense of disappointment from Julie Blakstad at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as she felt we could have earned more than the point with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Sweden international highlighted the need to be more ‘ruthless’ in front of goal after the number of opportunities created – 11 shots in total, five on target - but we were unable to find a breakthrough.

Slotting into left-back, although she continued her attacking threat when going forward, Julie was part of the backline that preserved a clean sheet for the first time in nine games and while Lize Kop was at her very best in the box, we limited United to any clear-cut chances.

With a point earned in north London, it brought an end to four straight defeats in all competitions for us, but the 24-year-old felt we could have deservedly got more on the afternoon.

“We really showed up and play some really good football,” Julie told us, reflecting on the game with SPURSPLAY. “I feel like my feeling is a bit of disappointment even though we got a point. I feel like we could do more, probably the three points as well, because we created a lot of good chances but, in the end, it's about putting those chances into goal and we're not doing that.

“Even though we had some tough results, we also played really good opponents and I think the last game, leading into the international break. was quite a good. So, I think we bring a lot of that to this game and show that we can, in parts of the game, outplay them. We just need to continue to build on this, be more ruthless and score goals.”

That was also our final game of the season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, on what was a lovely afternoon in north London, and Julie loved every second being out there in front of our Lilywhite fanbase.

“It's really fun to play and it's a good atmosphere here. playing in front of so many fans and in good weather as well, so this is a perfect day for football,” she added. “It's really important and I think they show us time after time that they show up for us every single game.

“We try to do our best every time we are here but. Unfortunately, we haven't succeeded in winning but I hope they enjoy the game even though we didn't get three points today.”
