Fixture flashback - festive Canaries clashes
Our fixture list for the new 2015-16 season sees the return of a previously frequent festive clash with Norwich City.
We face the newly-promoted Canaries at White Hart Lane on Boxing Day this year, having met them on that same date a number of times in the past.
Our most recent December 26 clash took place in 2004-05, when second half goals from Robbie Keane and Michael Brown gave us a 2-0 win at Carrow Road.
We triumphed by the same scoreline at Norwich on Boxing Day, 1994, with Nicky Barmby’s 11th-minute opener being added to by a last minute Teddy Sheringham effort.
Two years earlier, in 1992-93, we battled out a goalless draw when visiting a Canaries side featuring several players with Spurs connections. Ian Culverhouse, John Polston, Mark Bowen, Ian Crook and Ruel Fox were all in Norwich’s starting XI that day – the first four having previously worn our colours while Fox went on to play for us after a spell at Newcastle United.
Without a Boxing Day game in 2011-12 and 1993-94 seasons, we instead faced Norwich in festive fixtures on December 27.
Nicky Barmby and Norwich's Colin Woodthorpe at White Hart Lane on December 27, 1993.
A Gareth Bale double saw us register another 2-0 win at Norwich in 2011, while the 1993 clash saw us slump to a 3-1 home defeat – a Chris Sutton brace and an Efan Ekoku effort accounting for the visitors’ goals while Barmby replied for us.
We had one other December 27 meeting in 1980-81, a 2-2 draw at Norwich, but that match doesn’t fit the criteria we’re looking at here because we were in action 24 hours earlier – sharing eight goals with Southampton in a 4-4 Boxing Day draw at White Hart Lane!
