DeAndre Yedlin got an assist on his Sunderland debut on Tuesday night, but it was still a tough evening for the US international.
Our on-loan right-back was given his first opportunity in a Black Cats shirt after being named in the starting line-up for their Capital One Cup third round clash with Manchester City.
However, he saw his side slump to a 4-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light.
City went four goals in front before DeAndre’s cross was converted by Ola Toivonen as Sunderland grabbed a consolation goal seven minutes from time. DeAndre completed the full game.
Elsewhere on Tuesday night, Nathan Oduwa was in action for Rangers in their 3-1 home defeat by St Johnstone in the third round of the Scottish League Cup.
The attacking midfielder hit the crossbar in the second half after a good solo run cutting in from the left, but his side was already three goals behind at that point.
He completed 90 minutes, while defender Dominic Ball was an unused substitute for Rangers.
