Harry Kane slots home the winner against City on Sunday - his record-breaking 267th for Spurs
Harry celebrates his special goal

City

Ben: “It was so unbelievably special. I’ve always said this, but in the new stadium, we need to create historic moments, so we’ve got that sense of what White Hart Lane was like, a stadium where we’ve seen memorable moments over the years, and we’re starting to get that now with Champions League, the games against City, the first-ever game against Palace, the wins against Arsenal. I think this one tops the lot, with what it means to the Club and the fans, just such a special day. What a performance! Emerson Royal was sensational, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg phenomenal, Ben Davies brilliant, Hugo, Eric, Cuti, just across the board.”

Rob: “The main take away, other than Harry’s achievement, was what a team performance it was. It was the most galvanised we’ve seen the team. Harry and Antonio have spoken about the team meeting pre-Fulham, and we’ve all seen the difference already, three clean sheets, last-ditch defending and on an  individual level, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looked so energetic, Emerson Royal had his best game, Heung-Min Son looked sharp, no doubt the two goals at Preston helped and Eric Dier dealt with everything, probably his best since the World Cup. A brilliant day all-round.”

Harry Kane

Rob: “It’s probably good the landmark has come and gone, it was inevitable, but he had to do it, and to do in that manner against the champions was brilliant. Hugo Lloris is out, and I’m sure he’ll relish being captain for the next few weeks, looking for more goals, and hopefully we’ll see the same Spurs we saw at this time last season, where the team kicked-on brilliantly to make it into the top four.”

Ben: “What more can we say? The thing I would say this week is that it was really special to see him quite emotional, just glowing, looking so happy, so fulfilled. It was such a special day and to see him moved by it all was amazing.”

Kane's finest...

Milesy: “I’ll start you off with my five. I was there for his first at Shamrock, and his record-breaking 267th, but I’ll go for the Arsenal curler with the mask (#56, March, 2016), the curler with his right foot into the top left corner against Palace (#211, March, 2021), Juventus away in the Champions League (#132, February, 2018) because I just felt that night that we could say we were up there with Europe’s best, the Lane Finale against United (#92, May 2017) as he’d go down in history as the last Spur to score at the Lane and now it has to be City (#267, Sunday) as all 61,747 of us can say, ‘we were there’, when he broke Greavsie’s record!”

Ben: “The Palace curler was unbelievable. I loved his goal in Dortmund (#163, March, 2019), they were piling on the pressure and if they’d scored one, they may have come back into it. As soon as Harry scored… that rattle of the net. I loved his goal against Burnley from distance (#178, December, 2019), and two goals against Arsenal, the header (#27, February 2015) and the mask. That means I’m leaving out the goals against Chelsea, the towering header against Arsenal, the end-to-end goal against Arsenal, the header at City, the problem is, he’s a scorer of so many goals. Unbelievable.”

Rob: “I’ve been trying to think of a few different ones, goals I really liked, for instance, when he fell over but still scored at Leicester (#169, September, 2019), the counter-attack goal against Arsenal when he smacked it in off the crossbar (#202, December, 2020), I loved the moment at the Etihad last season, capping off an unbelievable individual performance with the late winner (#238, February, 2022). I’ll also go Sunday, a cool finish and a moment to say ‘we were there’, and I’ll also go for the 5-3 v Chelsea, a stand-out game in his career in terms of the level he was getting to, the goal (#21, January, 2015) where he held off Oscar and thumped it in.”

Rob & Clive Allen

Rob: “I had a great time with Clive, It’s only the second time we’ve commentated together. He is such a pleasure to be around. It’s well known he’s one of the best co-commentators around anyway, such an experienced broadcaster. It was great getting his insight. I know Clive played as a lone striker in his record-breaking season (49 goals in 1986/87) but hopefully we’ll strike up a good partnership for Spurs.”

Ben: “It’s so authentic, seeing Clive bouncing up and down, Rob fist pumping, the lines they used, it’s just perfection. I’m so pleased it’s Rob’s voice on these moments, once again, he nailed it, and it’s there for life, every time we use a clip of Harry Kane’s record-breaking goal.”

Foxes

Ben: “Leicester are a bit up and down, but had an interesting win against Villa (4-2 on Saturday), where I think they had five shots on target and scored four times. Villa were caught out a couple of times, Leicester were very good, they’ve switched things around and have a number of very good players, plenty of technical ability. Having said that, it’s all about us, we’ve done it against City, now we have to be ruthless and get the job done again.”

Rob: “It was a big win for Leicester at Villa, they are scoring goals again, still conceding goals, but they are out of the relegation zone and I don’t think they were every going to get relegated. The three new signings have really helped - Victor Kristiansen (from FC Copenhagen), Harry Souttar (Stoke) and Tete (Shakhtar Donetsk). I saw Brendan Rodgers say that Tete was the right-footed, left-sided player he’s been looking for, so whether it’s Tete or Harvey Barnes, whoever comes in for suspended Cristian Romero on that side will have to be on their game. It’s an interesting test. I thought James Maddison was really good in the 6-2 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September, he’s fit and scored at the weekend. And we know this games mean goals.”
