Kane and Lamela up for Premier League awards

Harry Kane and Erik Lamela have both received nominations in March’s round of monthly Premier League awards.

For the third time so far this campaign, Harry has been shortlisted for the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award following a very productive spell for the frontman in the competition. With three goals and two assists in just four appearances – a league-high for goal involvements this March - our number 10 helped us to take nine points from a possible 12 to reignite our challenge for a place in the top four.

Four of those five goal involvements came in just one outing for the striker as he both scored and assisted twice in our 4-1 home win over Crystal Palace. He was then on target once more last Sunday as he grabbed our second against Aston Villa in an important 2-0 win at Villa Park.

Joining our homegrown forward on the shortlist for this month’s prize are Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen, Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Jesse Lingard of West Ham United, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Leeds United’s Illan Meslier, Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and Leandro Trossard of Brighton & Hove Albion.

As well as the Player of the Month honour, Harry has also been nominated for the Premier League’s Budweiser Goal of the Month award with his first strike against Palace being recognised. In the build-up alone, the goal was worthy of its plaudits with nine players involved and no less than 21 passes exchanged. Then, add the sublime strike from the England international – a first-time effort from outside of the box that curled sumptuously into the top left-hand corner of the net – it was an exceptional effort.

For the prize though, the striker will be up against one of his team-mates as Erik Lamela’s exquisite ‘rabona’ against Arsenal has also been shortlisted. Giving us the lead on what was an ultimately disappointing day as we fell to a 2-1 defeat, Erik was teed up by Lucas Moura 12 yards out from goal, but no one could have imagined what was to happen next.

Yes, Coco has previous for not just executing a rabona but also scoring with one, as he did back in October, 2014 against Asteras Tripolis, yet, to do it again, and against our old rivals, was remarkable. He had three players plus the goalkeeper in front of him, however, he still managed to find a way through. Wrapping his left foot around the back of his right to incredibly hook the ball into the bottom corner, he left his his team-mates with their hands on their heads in utter disbelief at what they had just witnessed.

The two strikes will be up against six other Premier League goals from March including Kelechi Iheanacho’s (for Leicester City at Burnley), Mason Mount’s (for Chelsea at Liverpool), Che Adam’s (for Southampton at Sheffield United), Dwight McNeil’s (for Burnley at Everton), Leandro Trossard’s (for Brighton & Hove Albion v Newcastle United) and Jesse Lingard’s (for West Ham United v Arsenal).

As usual, fan votes will help to decide the winners – cast your votes via the links below to give your backing to Harry and Erik in their respective categories. Voting closes at 6pm on Monday (29 March).
