Hojbjerg celebrates International Nurses Day with virtual visit to local hospital
Pierre-Emilie Hojbjerg today took part in a virtual Q&A with heroic nurses from the Club’s local hospital to celebrate International Nurses Day.
International Nurses Day is a global celebration that acknowledges and celebrates the commitment and bravery of nurses around the world.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen more than ever the fundamental role nursing plays in patient safety and care.
Pierre spoke to nurses from S2 Ward at North Middlesex University Hospital, who have been working tirelessly on the frontline throughout the pandemic and were recently awarded ‘Outstanding Contribution to Patient Care’ at their staff awards.
During the chat, the group had the chance to hear Pierre’s thoughts on playing football throughout the pandemic and his excitement at fans returning to matches, as well as getting to ask him some questions of their own.

Caryl Joseph, Ward Manager for S2 at North Middlesex University Hospital, said: “It was so much fun to meet and spend time with Pierre, and talk about how each other’s roles have adapted throughout the pandemic. With today also being International Nurses Day, speaking with Pierre added to the celebrations and the chance to reflect on our achievements over the last year with him was a nice reminder of everything we should be proud of at North Middlesex Hospital.”
Speaking after the call, Pierre said: “This past year has shown the world how important nurses are, and the vital role they play. It was a privilege to join the nurses today from North Middlesex Hospital and it was fantastic to be able to celebrate International Nurses Day with them. On behalf of everyone at Tottenham Hotspur, thank you for all the incredible work you continue to do.”
Our home stadium has been used by the NHS as part of the national fight against the pandemic. Areas including the NFL Away dressing room area, flash interview rooms and our Media Café were transformed to host North Middlesex University Hospital’s Women’s Outpatient services between April and July last year.
This was designed to free up much needed capacity at the hospital itself, assisting the redirection of pregnant women away from the main hospital during the pandemic, as well as freeing up capacity to treat COVID-19 patients.
More than 41,000 appointments were delivered and drive-through COVID-19 testing was offered within the stadium’s indoor car park areas for hospital staff and their families.
