Heung-Min Son: "New stadium gave me goose bumps"
Heung-Min Son made history by scoring the first goal by a first team player at our new stadium this week - and struggled to find the words to describe it.
On a night full of emotion, we returned home and ran out in front of 60,000 fans for the first time as our magnificent new arena staged its inaugural Premier League match.
Of course, the order on this night of all nights was a much-needed win against Crystal Palace and the players delivered with a dominant performance, our intent underlined by 26 attempts at goal.
Sonny provided the spark to a key victory with that historic first goal on 55 minutes. Picking up the ball from Christian Eriksen on the edge of the box, he cut onto his left foot and his shot clipped off Luka Milivojevic and flew into the corner of the net in front of our 17,500-capacity South Stand, sparking jubilation across the stadium. Christian added the second goal 10 minutes from time to secure victory.
We're up and running... with a huge Champions League quarter-final, first leg against Manchester City next up on Tuesday (8pm).
"I can’t believe it, I’ve never seen a stadium like this," said Sonny, who joked before his interview that 'I must have said 'unbelievable' about 100 times. "I’ve played in a few stadiums, some beautiful, some not so beautiful but this is my favourite stadium because it’s just unbelievable.
"Yes, I said it a few times already, unbelievable, but I can’t find more words!
"On the pitch, when you hear the noise, when the fans start singing, the bounce back to the pitch is unbelievable. I got goose bumps after the first goal. I was so happy to score and get three points.
"The stadium is amazing, the support from the fans was amazing. What a night. I'm so proud to wear this shirt."
So how did it feel to be home? "Very comfortable, very happy, very proud, very grateful, everything positive," he added.
