Latest from north London – Ryan Mason on team news

Ryan Mason says Steven Bergwijn and Harry Winks “are ready” after naming them in tonight’s starting line-up against Aston Villa.

Making two changes from the team that beat Wolves 2-0 at the weekend, Interim Head Coach Ryan has brought the duo in at the expense of Gareth Bale and Giovani Lo Celso, who are both on the bench.

Speaking to broadcasters Sky Sports pitchside at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the build-up to this evening’s 6pm kick-off, Ryan explained: “Gareth played the best part of 90 minutes at the weekend, the most he’s played all season in the Premier League.

“Gareth is an experienced man, he knows his body, we spoke and we felt like it was best for him to not start today, so that’s all there is.

“The players who have come in are ready to come in, there are also players on the bench as well who have been training well and who are ready.

“We’re focused on tonight’s game – we need to win, we know the importance of it, it’s going to be a tough game but we’ve got our fans back in the stadium and we’re looking forward to it.”
