Kane backs ‘really important’ strike partner to shine in 2023

Harry Kane had some encouraging words for Heung-Min Son after the South Korean international forward re-established himself on the scoresheet at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Having endured a comparatively dry spell in front of goal so far this season – all three of his previous top-flight goals in 2022/23 came in a blistering 13-minute spell against Leicester City back in September – the 30-year-old produced an accurate finish to round off an excellent 4-0 victory at Selhurst Park.

It was also a significant strike in terms of the statistics, as it saw the forward go level with Teddy Sheringham as our second-highest Premier League goalscorer of all time (97), behind Harry himself.

With Harry and Sonny also holding the Premier League record for the highest amount of goal combinations ever in the division, our England international marksman was delighted to see his team-mate hit the target again – and hopes he can rediscover the kind of form that saw him lift the Premier League’s Golden Boot last season.

“As an attacking player, sometimes you just need a bit of luck to go your way,” explain Harry, as he assessed Son’s recent endeavours.

“Sonny has been working so hard with and without the ball at the training ground – when you go through spells like that, you just want to work even harder.

“He was out there (at Palace) getting in good positions, one fell his way and he was able to get a good finish. That will be great for him, great for his confidence.

“He’s a really important player for us and hopefully this can help kick-start him for a few more goals between now and the end of the season.”
