‘We need to believe’ – Lucas
As we look to put the double disappointment of the last few days behind us in our final game before the international break at Aston Villa this weekend, defiant Lucas Moura insists a top-four finish is still within reach.
Defeat in the north London derby last Sunday, followed by a shock Europa League elimination at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night, has cast a shadow over what had previously been an encouraging spell, with five wins on the spin under our belts prior to our trip to the Emirates.
With attentions now turning back to the Premier League, we enter the weekend’s action six points off fourth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand.
With Champions League qualification still very much the target, Lucas believes we’re more than capable of closing the gap if we show ‘belief, trust and fight’, starting on Sunday evening at Villa Park (7.30pm UK).
“In the Premier League we have 10 more games to play but we need to play every game with the same mentality – to play to win, to do our best,” underlined the Brazilian attacker.
“I think it’s still possible in the Premier League to finish in the top four but we need to believe, we need to trust and to fight.”
Lucas has earned praise for his individual performances in recent weeks, often providing a spark in central areas of the pitch in behind Harry Kane.
“For me, the most important thing is the team and winning games but I feel very comfortable in that position in the middle,” added Lucas, explaining his current role in the side.
“I can go from the right to the left, I can go as a number nine as well so it’s a position that I like to play, I’m very happy in that position and the gaffer is giving me confidence – that is very important.
“I hope to keep playing well and help my team.”
