Heung-Min Son has spoken about the importance of our last nine games of the season - and he’s determined to play his part in a positive finale.
Sonny returned to action off the bench for the second half of Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle after injury forced him off early in the north London derby on 14 March. He hopes to be flying again when we face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday (4.30pm).
“I’m working hard to be fully fit again,” he told us this week. “I’ve had almost three weeks of training, plus (45 minutes at) Newcastle and hopefully I’ll be fully fit and ready for Sunday’s big game.”
It doesn’t get much bigger than United at home and we’re right in the middle of the battle for a place in the top four - and Champions League football - as we prepare for the final eight games of the Premier League season, plus the Carabao Cup Final on 25 April. West Ham are currently fourth on 52 points, we’re sixth on 49 and only five points separates the Hammers and Everton in eighth.
Sonny has 18 goals to his name in all competitions this term - his highest seasonal total for us is 21 (2016/17) - and he wants a strong finish.
“I’m a bit disappointed with the last few games with a bit of fatigue, plus the injury,” he added. “I had such a good run and I always want to help the team. We’re all training hard and working hard to be better. We know we have to be ready for a tough game on Sunday.”
