Harry is the ‘complete striker’ - Lamela
It would have been a goal to remember for Erik Lamela, but he wasn’t surprised to see Harry Kane there where it mattered to open the scoring against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night.
It would have been a goal to remember for Erik Lamela, but he wasn’t surprised to see Harry Kane there where it mattered to open the scoring against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night.
Erik opened up the Croatians with a brilliant solo run only to see his shot cannon back off the post. The rebound fell to Harry, who buried it for 1-0. The striker was there again in the second half to hand us an important 2-0 win in the UEFA Europa League, round of 16, first leg ahead of next week’s (18 March, 5.55pm UK) trip to Zagreb.
That extended Harry’s Club record European tally to 38 goals and took him to 26 for the 2020/21 season - and we’ve a minimum of 12 games remaining...
Signed in 2013, Erik has seen every step of Harry’s rise from Academy graduate to Golden Boot winner, England captain and second place on the Club’s all-time goalscoring list, now on 214 Spurs goals.
“Harry is unbelievable,” said Erik. “At the moment, he is one of the best in the world in his position. He is complete - he can score with his right foot, his left foot, headers, he can hold the ball, he can push the team forward, of course his passing and awareness as well.
“He is a great team-mate as well as being a great person. He’s very humble, very professional, great attitude. He’s first into training every day, and the last to leave. He fully deserves everything.”
Approaching 250 games for us - he’s now on 248 - Erik is in fine form, and it was no surprise to see him set up our opener against Dinamo Zagreb, just a few days after providing the secondary assist for Heung-Min Son and Harry to break the Premier League’s record for combinations in a season (14 and counting) against Burnley on Sunday.
“I’m feeling good, I try to do my best, and I’m happy we won, this is always most important for me,” he added. “The clean sheet is very important in these types of games and this is a good result for us in the first leg, but we know it’s not over.”
That takes us to the north London derby in the Premier League at the Emirates on Sunday (4pm). “It’s a massive game,” said Erik. “We’re very excited. We will take it like it is, a derby. We know how to play these games. We are ready.”
