Villa goal ranked second
English Barclays Premiership
Ricky Villa's stunning goal in the 1981 FA Cup final replay against Manchester City has been voted the second best ever goal scored at Wembley during the grand old stadium's 77 year history.
No Spurs fan, or football follower for that matter, of a certain age will ever forget the drama as Villa, with the score poised at 2-2, picked up the ball in the opposition half and surged forward. On approach to his moment in history, Ricky jinked round the City defenders, almost appearing to be beating them for fun. The Argentinian then ended the agony by slotting the ball into the net before charging off into the Wembley night to celebrate with fans and team-mates.
Ricky's joy was a sharp contrast to Cup final day itself when he was distraught at being substituted and trudged inconsolable, cutting a lonely figure, towards the tunnel.
Spurs feature again in the poll carried out by Nationwide, Paul Gascoigne's free-kick strike in the FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal at Wembley in 1991 is rated fifth.
