Our Under-18s made it nine on the trot in the league by completing the double over last season's Academy champions Leicester City on Saturday. The lads showed tremendous character to come from 2-1 down to clinch a 3-2 victory with Jon Obika, David Hutton (pictured right) and Ryan Mason on target.
Alex Inglethorpe's team have now won 11 of their last 12 matches in the FA Premier Academy League with one draw at Bristol City in November.
Alex gave us the rundown. "For a start, Leicester are a very good team. They won the overall Academy title last season and they are on a similar points tally to us in our division with Aston Villa top at the moment.
"Leicester made it difficult for us to play our football and we actually took the lead against the run of play after 25 minutes when Jon Obika latched onto a through ball, took a great first touch and finished one on one.
"We were then the architects of our own downfall as Leicester went 2-1 up with goals either side of half-time.
"We gifted them a goal about a minute before the break when we lost possession in midfield and then more sloppy play led to us giving away a penalty after 50 minutes.
"We changed system to three at the back to try and impose our own style on the game and it worked as we started to create chances.
"We got back into it on the hour when David Hutton did well, was brought down for a penalty and picked himself up to score from the spot.
"About 15 minutes later we put together a good move down the right involving Adam Smith and David Hutton and Ryan Mason provided an excellent finish to make it 3-2.
"Leicester bombed forward in the latter stages, their goalkeeper was coming up for set-peices and everything but Oscar Jansson was immense for us.
"I have to give full credit to the players. We've played a better but this was against Leicester, one of the best Academy teams around. We stood up to the challenge, went toe-to-toe with them and came out deserved winners."
