U18s finish in style

Our Under-18s wrapped up their Premier Academy League campaign with a 3-0 win against Chelsea on Monday.

Our Under-18s wrapped up their Premier Academy League campaign with a 3-0 win against Chelsea on Monday.

The opening goal from Shaquille Coulthurst (pictured above) and a double from substitute Darren McQueen - both Under-15 players - secured a 19th win in 28 PAL matches with an impressive 94 goals scored.

It means their final 59-point record with a plus-49 goal difference would have won three of the four divisions of the PAL but, unfortunately, not the one they are in.

Instead, the lads finish behind Leicester City, who boast the outstanding record across the PAL with 22 wins and six draws from their 28 matches in Group B. Arsenal (56 points), United (56) and Forest (59) were the other group winners.

"I thought we were outstanding," reported coach Alex Inglethorpe.

"We started well and created a couple of early chances that were missed by Tom Carroll and Shaquille Coulthard.

"We pressed the ball, retained possession and showed good invention, so when we went 1-0 up it was about right.

"Shaq Coulthurst gave us the lead after 20 minutes when he was sent clear down the left-hand side and finished well across the goalkeeper.

"Unfortunately, Chelsea had a player sent off at that point after a tackle probably borne out of a little frustration.

Coulthurst goal

"We were able to control the game after that and young Darren McQueen came on and scored twice in the second half.

"His first and our second came after 75 minutes after build-up involving Paul Jose M'poku, Tom Carroll and Alex Pritchard and Darren turned and finished well from inside the six-yard box.

"The final goal started from Jake Nicholson - a lot of our good play came through him - and Zaine Francis-Angol crossed from the left for Darren to slot home with his left foot.

"I was delighted with the performance and the attitude of the lads.

"We've finished the season with a good record but more importantly our style of play has been very exciting."
