The captain speaks...

Michael Dawson has thanked the fans for their support after what he admits has been an 'up and down' season.

"We've been through a lot," said the skipper who passed 300 games for the club this term.

"The Premier League is an unforgiving league, no hiding it and we are disappointed to have dropped points against Norwich away, West Brom and particularly West Ham and Newcastle at home, but we haven't beaten a team in the top four and that's why we're not in there.

"We know it means so much to the fans and on that note, I'd like to thank them for the turnout all season, I think we’re one of the only clubs that sell out wherever we go, whatever night, across Europe as well they travel with us in big numbers, they've been fantastic again and a big thanks to them, they stick with us all the time."

Speaking in our official matchday programme, Michael added that he expects a tough finale against Villa, not least now Paul Lambert's men are clear of any threat of relegation.

"They are safe now so they will be relieved and can maybe play with some freedom, so it will be a tough game," he said.

"They've plenty of good players but we will be ready and determined to send our fans away in the summer with the three points."
