Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.


1947    A Len Duquemin hat-trick helps us to a 4-0 home win over Brentford in the Second Division. Eddie Baily completes the scoring with his first goal for the club.

2008    A last minute Roman Pavlyuchenko (pictured, above) goal sees us beat Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane.


SPURS v BAYER LEVERKUSEN, UEFA Champions League, matchday four, at Wembley Stadium, 7.45pm UK time

1974    John Duncan scores his first Spurs goals in a 2-2 draw at Stoke City.

2010    We beat Inter Milan 3-1 in the Champions League at White Hart Lane. Rafael van der Vaart, Peter Crouch and Pav score our goals.


1894    Lycurgus Burrows and Charlie Ambler make their Spurs debuts in a 5-3 FA Cup home win over Wolverton.

1970    We lose 3-1 at Motherwell and so exit the Texaco Cup.


1899    We hammer Thames Ironworks 7-0 in the Southern League. Tom Pratt nets three.

1950    Eddie Baily scores a hat-trick as we demolish Portsmouth 5-1 in the First Division at the Lane.


1955    Maurice Norman makes his Spurs debut as we draw 1-1 with Cardiff City in the First Division at White Hart Lane.

1966    Nayim born in Ceuta, Morocco.  He would join us, initially on loan, in November, 1988.


ARSENAL v SPURS, Premier League, at the Emirates, 12pm

1899    Goalkeeper Charlie Ambler makes his last appearance for us but has little to do as we demolish Chatham 8-0.

2011    An own goal at either end contributes to our 3-1 win at Fulham. Aaron Lennon (pictured, below) and Jermain Defoe also score.



1931    Winger Willie Evans makes his Spurs debut and scores twice as we beat Swansea Town 6-2 in the Second Division at the Lane.


1916    Full-back Bert Ringrose born in Tottenham. He first joins us as an amateur in 1934.

2004    Martin Jol is appointed as our new Head Coach.


1963    Danny Blanchflower plays his last game for us. We lose 4-1 at Manchester United.

1988    Centre-half Guy Butters makes his Spurs debut at Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup where we win 2-1 after extra time.


1979    Welsh international Terry Yorath (pictured, below) scores his only Spurs goal in a 2-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers.

1998    We return from Liverpool with a 3-1 League Cup fourth round win.


11    FRIDAY

1964    A star-studded occasion as we play a Scotland XI in John White’s memorial match at the Lane.

2007    A brace from Jermaine Jenas as we beat Wigan 4-0 at the Lane.


1920    Winger Ernie ‘Alphabet’ Jones born in Cwmbwrla, near Swansea.

1980    Garth Crooks scores a hat-trick in our 4-2 home win over Crystal Palace.

13    SUNDAY

1934    Scottish international and Spurs Double legend Dave Mackay born in Musselburgh.

1976    Full-back John Gorman makes his Spurs debut in a 1-0 home defeat to Bristol City.

14    MONDAY

1946    Winger Roger Morgan born in Walthamstow and would join us in February, 1969.

1962    We beat Zamalek Sporting Club 7-3 in a friendly in Cairo.


1967    Gustavo Poyet (pictured, below) born in Montevideo. He was a Spur from July, 2001.

1994    Gerry Francis announced as our new manager.



1895    Cuthbert Monk plays his last game for the club – at home to Vampires in the FA Cup. Spurs win 2-1.

1938    Willie Hall scores five goals for England in a 7-0 win over Ireland.


1900    We beat Portsmouth 8-1 in the Western League.

2001    Gus Poyet nabs an injury time goal to give us a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal.

18    FRIDAY

1950    A hat-trick from Les Medley as we beat Newcastle 7-0 at the Lane.

1983    Michael Dawson born in Northallerton and would join us from Nottingham Forest in January, 2005. Happy birthday, Daws!


SPURS v WEST HAM UNITED, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 5.30pm

1938    Winger Freddie Cox makes a goalscoring Spurs debut in a 1-1 draw at Swansea.

1997    Christian Gross takes over as Tottenham manager.

20    SUNDAY

1929    Billy Minter resigns as manager but remains at the club as assistant secretary.

1971    Goalkeeper Barry Daines (pictured, below) makes his debut as we beat West Brom 3-2 at home. Alan Gilzean scores twice.


21    MONDAY

1908    We win 2-0 at Gainsborough Trinity in the Second Division. Bobby Steel and Bert Middlemiss score.

1931    It’s close in the Second Division at home to Port Vale. We nick a 9-3 win!


MONACO v SPURS, UEFA Champions League, matchday five, at Stade Louis II, 7.45pm UK time

1884    St Peter’s 2nd XI defeated 3-2 in a home friendly.

2003    Rohan Ricketts on target at home to Aston Villa as we win 2-1.


1941    England midfielder Alan Mullery born in Notting Hill and would join us from Fulham in March, 1964. Happy birthday, Mullers!


1997    Chris Hughton is caretaker boss but we lose by the only goal to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

2010    We beat Werder Bremen 3-0 to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.

25    FRIDAY

1937    Goalkeeper Ken Hancock born in Stoke. He would join us in March, 1969.

2000    Les Ferdinand (pictured, below) scores all three in our 3-0 home win over Leicester City.



CHELSEA v SPURS, Premier League, at Stamford Bridge, 5.30pm

1986    We come away from Cambridge United with a 3-1 League Cup fourth round triumph.

2005    Edgar Davids scores his only Spurs goal as we win 2-1 at Wigan.

27    SUNDAY

1947    Winger Jimmy Pearce born in Tottenham, starting with us as an amateur in May, 1963. Happy birthday!

1948    Our Second Division home match with Nottingham Forest is abandoned due to fog after 17 minutes with the score 0-0.

28    MONDAY

1962    Danny Blanchflower wins the last of his 56 caps for Northern Ireland against Poland.

2013    We win 2-0 in Tromso in the Europa League.


1934    Winger Terry Dyson born in Malton, joining us originally as an amateur, 20 years later. Happy birthday, Terry!

1969    Our home match with Everton is postponed just hours before the game due to snow.


1949    England beat Italy 2-0 at White Hart Lane in a friendly.

1960    Gary Lineker born in Leicester. He would move to Spurs in January, 1989. Happy birthday, Lynx!
