Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

1    WEDNESDAY

1902    We win the Dewar Shield, beating Corinthians 5-2. The competition later becomes the Charity Shield.

1997    Ronnie Rosenthal’s great night at Southampton. Trailing 2-0 in an FA Cup fifth round replay, the Rocket goes on as sub to inspire us to a 6-2 win after extra time, scoring three times in the process.

2    THURSDAY

1946    We beat Chelsea 4-2 in a White Hart Lane friendly. George Foreman bags two.

2014    Roberto Soldado (pictured, above) nets to give us single goal win over Cardiff City at White Hart Lane.

3    FRIDAY

1928    Manager Billy Minter introduces a training regime that includes long walks across snow covered fields in preparation for our fifth round FA Cup tie at Huddersfield. As a result all our players go into the game with heavy colds – and we lose 6-1! We are also relegated at the end of the season.

1973    We win the League Cup, beating Norwich City 1-0 at Wembley. Substitute Ralph Coates is our match winner.

4    SATURDAY

Erik Lamela’s 25th birthday.

1997    Steffen Iversen scores a hat-trick at Sunderland.  We win 4-0 with Allan Nielsen also on target.

2007    Paul Stalteri’s late goal gives us a 4-3 win over West Ham United at Upton Park.

5    SUNDAY

SPURS v EVERTON, Premier league, at White Hart Lane, 1.30pm

1921    We beat Aston Villa by a single Jimmy Banks goal at the Lane, on our way to ultimate FA Cup success.

1938    A record 75,038 White Hart Lane crowd watches our FA Cup quarter-final tie with Sunderland. Our Division Two side goes down by the only goal.

6    MONDAY

1985    Our first home defeat ever in European competition – Real Madrid depart with a 1-0 UEFA Cup win thanks to Steve Perryman’s own goal.

7    TUESDAY

1959    Terry Medwin (pictured, below) scores four as we beat Leicester City 6-0 at the Lane.

2015    A Harry Kane brace in a 2-1 win at QPR where Sandro scores for the hosts.

8    WEDNESDAY

1902    We beat Swindon 7-1 in the Southern League. Sandy Brown bags three.

1909    We return from Chesterfield with a 3-1 Division Two win. We are promoted at the end of the season while the Spireites go down.

9    THURSDAY

1895    We lose 5-4 at home to Old Westminsters in the London Senior Cup.

1935    A 1-1 draw at Portsmouth. Sam Bell makes his debut and Tom Meads plays his last game for us. Willie Evans nets from the penalty spot.

10    FRIDAY

1958    Garth Crooks born in Stoke. He would join us from the Potters in July, 1980.

1973    John Polston scores his only Spurs goal as we beat Norwich City 3-0 at the Lane. He moves to Carrow Road in July, 1990.

11    SATURDAY

2000    We beat Southampton 7-2. Steffen Iversen scores three and Chris Armstrong bags two.

2007    A 3-3 FA Cup sixth round draw at Chelsea. Hossam Ghaly among our scorers.

12    SUNDAY

SPURS v MILLWALL, Emirates FA Cup, quarter-final, at White Hart Lane, 2pm

1912    Willie Hall born in Newark and would join us from Notts County in December, 1932.

1977    Defender Jimmy Holmes makes his Spurs debut but we lose 2-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion.

13    MONDAY

1907    John Cameron, one of the most influential characters in our early history, resigns as manager.

2002    Mauricio Taricco (pictured, below) is sent off for the second consecutive league game. We lose both 4-0 – at Manchester United and then at Chelsea.

14    TUESDAY

1931    Jimmy Smailes scores on his debut at home against Bradford City. We win 3-1 with Ted Harper bagging a brace.

2013    Emmanuel Adebayor’s crucial late away goal sends us into the Europa League quarter-finals following a 4-4 aggregate draw with Inter Milan.

15    WEDNESDAY

1902    White Hart Lane stages an FA Cup semi-final between Nottingham Forest and Southampton. Saints win 3-1 but would go down to Sheffield United after a replay in the final.

1995    Gary Mabbutt makes the 700th appearance of his career, a goalless draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

16    THURSDAY

1999    Memorable goal from David Ginola at Barnsley as we win 1-0 to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.

2001    George Graham’s reign as Spurs boss comes to an end.

17    FRIDAY

Federico Fazio’s 30th birthday.

2001    David Pleat’s first game as caretaker manager results in a 3-0 home win over Coventry City.

2013    We lose by the only goal at home to Fulham. Former Spurs man Dimitar Berbatov scores the winner.

18    SATURDAY

1961    We reach the FA Cup final after a 3-0 semi win over Burnley at Villa Park. Bobby Smith scores twice.

2006    Aaron Lennon (pictured, below) scores his first Spurs goal, in a 2-0 win at Birmingham City who are relegated at the end of the season.

19    SUNDAY

SPURS v SOUTHAMPTON, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 2.15pm

1983    Alan Brazil makes his Spurs debut at Watford. Steve Perryman is dismissed but we win through Mark Falco’s goal.

2005    We beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Lane. Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane share our goals.

20    MONDAY

1976    We win 2-1 at Burnley in the Old First Division. The Clarets go down at the end of the season. John Pratt and John Duncan share our goals.

1985    We draw 0-0 at Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup but go out 1-0 on aggregate.

21    TUESDAY

1999    Allan Nielsen’s late goal against Leicester City wins us the League Cup at Wembley.

2009    We beat Chelsea thanks to Luka Modric’s goal at White Hart Lane.

22    WEDNESDAY

1902    Kettering Town go down 4-0 in the Southern League at the Lane. David Copeland scores three.

2008    Late goals from Darren Bent and Jamie O’Hara give us a 2-0 win at home to Portsmouth. Niko Kranjcar and Pedro Mendes play for Pompey.

23    THURSDAY

1894    Future Spurs captain and England international Arthur Grimsdell born in Watford.

2014    A late Gylfi Sigurdsson strike sees us come back from two goals down to beat Southampton 3-2 at the Lane.

24    FRIDAY

1934    We win 3-1 at Newcastle thanks to a George Hunt hat-trick.

1969    John Pratt and Ray Evans make their Spurs debuts at Arsenal. We lose by the only goal.

25    SATURDAY

1950    Terry Yorath (pictured, below) born in Cardiff. The future Wales international would join us from Coventry City in August, 1979. Happy birthday, Terry!

1978    A 3-3 Second Division draw at Mansfield where Glenn Hoddle scores twice.

26    SUNDAY

1937    We go down fighting at Bury, losing 5-3 in Division Two.

27    MONDAY

1886    We beat Enfield Lock 7-0 in a friendly at Northumberland Park.

1965    An amazing 7-4 win at home to Wolves. Cliff Jones scores three with a brace from Jimmy Greaves. Keith Weller makes his league debut and Les Allen scores his final Spurs goal.

28    TUESDAY

1988    Kenny Dalglish and John Barnes play for Spurs against Manchester United in a testimonial game for Danny Thomas. A 20,190 crowd sees United win 3-2.

1992    Gordon Durie nabs a hat-trick in a 4-3 home win over Coventry. Jason Cundy makes his Spurs debut.

29    WEDNESDAY

1890    Future England international Bert Bliss born in Willenhall. We spot him playing in local football in 1912.

1986    Gary Stevens bags the only goal at home to Arsenal, his last strike for us.

30    THURSDAY

1964    Alan Mullery scores his first Spurs goal but we go down 3-1 at Liverpool.

2013    We win 2-1 at Swansea where Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale net.

31    FRIDAY

1917    Five goals for Jimmy Banks as we beat Portsmouth 10-0 at home in the London Combination.

1978    Stephen Clemence born in Liverpool and would start his career in our youth academy.
