South Africa tour announced
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
The club is delighted to announce that we will travel to South Africa to play two high-profile friendlies in July.
The pre-season tour has been scheduled in for July 23-30 and will include matches in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The trip will also help South Africa's 2010 World Cup bid and highlight the country's infrastructure and organisational capacity.
Commented Glenn Hoddle: "We have many good friends and supporters in South Africa and look forward to returning to a country that is always passionate about its football.
"We will be looking for a strenuous work-out as part of our build-up to the new English season and know that the emergence of South African football will guarantee the kind of test that we need. It represents the perfect preparation for us.
"We are very happy to support South Africa in their World Cup bid and if tours like this can help their cause then we are pleased to play our part."
South Africa 2010 Bid Company chief executive officer Danny Jordaan said he was delighted we had accepted the invitation and was confident our presence in South Africa would attract great interest.
He explained: "We have already had several international matches to showcase South Africa’s ability at national team level and now we want to prove the same with our club sides.
"People around the world are also interested in the level of our domestic game and the only way to demonstrate the performance of our clubs is to match them up against top club sides from around the world.
"Tottenham Hotspur present a perfect profile because they are a legendary club with past success at all levels of the game and managed by one of the world’s most famous former footballers, Glenn Hoddle.
"With this tour we are hoping to highlight the good health of the domestic league in South Africa and this is the beginning of a process in which we hope to bring more of the world’s leading club sides to our shores."
We will publish details of our opponents and itinery as soon as it is confirmed.
