Six-shooting Spurs Ladies back on song in pre-season

Summer arrivals Sarah Wiltshire and Hannah Mackenzie were on target as Spurs Ladies impressed in a 6-3 friendly win against Chelsea's development team on Sunday.

Wiltshire has demonstrated her striking prowess in pre-season and scored twice in a fine display at Hotspur Way as the team bounced back from last week's loss against Arsenal's development team.

Karen Hills is pleased with preparations as we're now less than three weeks away from the Club's opening Women's Super League fixture at Durham on Sunday 24 September.

"We've got a good mix in the squad, youngsters, players with experience at this level and of course the core of the group who have so successful and taken the team up the levels in recent seasons," said Karen.

"They can't wait for the challenge of playing in WSL 2 and we're seeing that in every session and every pre-season match. The players are all hungry and raring to go."

Spurs have further friendlies scheduled against Reading on Sunday (Cheshunt FC) and Millwall (TBC).

Sarah Wiltshire dazzled once again in a 6-3 victory against Chelsea's development side after she scored a brace for Spurs Ladies and had a hand in two other goals.

Karen Hill’s team played their local London rivals in a pre-season friendly at Hotspur Way and both teams showed that they weren’t shy of the goal with a total of nine scored.

Spurs started well with early efforts from Wendy Martin and Bianca Baptiste but fell behind in the friendly as Beth Burgess (14 minutes) was on target for Chelsea. The lead was short-lived after Bianca Baptiste (15) equalised for Spurs moments later, gliding through the Blues' backline to slot home.

Wiltshire (20) then put Spurs ahead, drilling home from Josie Green's pass, before winning a penalty that was tucked away by a trialist for 3-1 (27). The trialist scored again soon after (35) for 4-1.

Kenni Thompson (50m) netted for Chelsea after the break and then new girl Hannah Mackenzie (60m) slotted another for Spurs from Wiltshire's cross.

Spurs continued their attacking threat and just after Lauren Pickett’s effort rattled the woodwork, Wiltshire, who had an outstanding game, was alert to follow up and tap in from close range for 6-2 (66).

Chelsea scored a third goal with five minutes to go after a leaping header from Douglas in the penalty box went in the back of the net but there was no way back for the Blues as the game finished 6-3.
