Eric Dier is happy in his role as Mr Versatile.
The 22-year-old played centre-back and right-back to fine effect in a successful first season at the club last term.
Pre-season saw Eric add another string to his position bow lining-up in a holding midfield role.
He took that pre-season preparation into the real thing on Saturday when he lined-up alongside Nabil Bentaleb for one of the toughest assignments of the season - Old Trafford on opening weekend of the Premier League.
Nabil and Eric lined-up against Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick, Memphis Depay and then World Cup winner Bastien Schweinsteiger in the midfield battle ground as we suffered a somewhat undeserved 1-0 loss, United taking the points via Kyle Walker’s own goal in the first half.
Eric relished the challenge. “I played in that role during pre-season and tried to do my best, just as I did last season,” said Eric.
“If the gaffer wants me to play in any position, I’ll play there and wherever that is, I’ll do my best. I did that at United and hopefully he was happy with me.”
