Michel's 'special' debut

Michel Vorm thanked Ryan Mason for making sure his Spurs career started with a victory.

The goalkeeper stepped out in a Spurs shirt for the first time in our Capital One Cup third round clash against Nottingham Forest.

Clear-cut chances were at a premium in the first half - Forest struck the woodwork - but the visitors threatened to ruin Michel’s night by taking the lead through Jorge Grant on 61 minutes.

Ryan and Harry Kane came off the bench on 64 minutes and Ryan equalised with a fine strike into the top corner from 30 yards eight minutes later.

That was the spark the team needed, Andros Townsend soon hit the bar before setting up Roberto Soldado for 2-1 and Harry finished well for 3-1 in injury time.

“It was a special night, my first game for Spurs and hopefully more to come,” said Michel, snapped up from Swansea in the summer.

“To start with a win in the cup is good, especially at home. We wanted to play better but we won and I’m happy with that.

“Ryan’s goal totally changed the game for us. We played well in possession but didn’t create that much and Forest were quite dangerous on the counter-attack.

“When they scored, I expected a very tough last 20 minutes but Ryan came in, scored an amazing goal and I felt after that we would go on to win the game.”
