Ladies up for the cup

Spurs Ladies are back on the cup trail on Sunday in a competition manager Karen Hills admits they would love to win.
Karen says the players are confident and ready for the home clash against Plymouth at Cheshunt FC (2pm) in the FA Women's Premier League Cup despite another narrow loss against rivals Charlton in the FAWPL on Wednesday night.
It was a familiar tale against Charlton as Spurs dominated large spells of possession but were hit by the only goal of the game from Gemma Shepherd on 65 minutes. That's a third single-goal loss in a row against Charlton - and Spurs might well have won all three.
Avilla Bergin struck the post in the first half while chances came and went for Rosie Kmita and Jenny Moore.
Charlton came back into the game in the second half and won it when Shepherd broke through centrally to finish past Toni-Anne Wayne.
Spurs made changes and did everything but find an equaliser. Moore, who played well up front, volleyed onto the roof of the net and Charlton somehow scrambled away a late corner.
"I'm so disappointed for the players because they gave everything," said Karen. "We had good opportunities in the first half and threw everything at them after going 1-0 down but it wasn't to be.
"They had one big chance and converted and we had a few and didn't score. That was the difference.
"Jenny Moore did really well up front and Avilla and Rosie Kmita got around her and caused Charlton problems. I'm really proud of the players."
Spurs play Plymouth for the first time this season the League Cup at Cheshunt FC on Sunday.
"We really want to do well in this competition," said Karen. "You obviously dream about the FA Cup but realistically you have Super League teams to overcome there. The League Cup therefore is the biggest competition that we could do well in - and we'd love to win it."
