Internationals - Andros' goal caps busy Tuesday

Andros Townsend made the most of an assist from our latest England debutant to fire in his nation’s equaliser as the Three Lions drew 1-1 with Italy on Tuesday evening.

The winger latched onto the ball 20 yards out after it was nudged into his path by fellow substitute Ryan Mason and promptly let fly – arrowing a shot past Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to put Roy Hodgson’s side back on level terms in the international friendly in Turin.

The 79th-minute strike, which arrived nine minutes after Andros was introduced in place of Fabian Delph, marked the 23-year-old’s third goal for the senior England side and cancelled out Graziano Pelle’s first half opener for the hosts.

Ryan hadn’t been on the pitch long himself either, having stepped off the bench for his senior Three Lions bow in the 74th minute – in doing so becoming the 72nd Spurs player to represent England at the top level.

Harry Kane – a goalscoring debutant in Friday’s win over Lithuania – completed the full 90 minutes on his second appearance for his nation, with Kyle Walker’s introduction as a half-time substitute meaning England finished the game with four of our players on the pitch.

Elsewhere on Tuesday evening, Jan Vertonghen completed 90 minutes for Belgium as they went top of Group B in Euro 2016 qualifying with a 1-0 victory in Israel, despite the second half sending-off of Vincent Kompany. Nacer Chadli was a 63rd-minute substitute, while Mousa Dembele remained unused on the bench.

DeAndre Yedlin, meanwhile, was a 76th-minute substitute for the USA in their 1-1 friendly draw with Switzerland in Zurich.

Earlier in the day, midfielder Harry Winks completed the full match for England Under-19s as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to France in their UEFA Under-19 Championship Elite Round qualifier, while defensive midfielder Filip Lesniak played 69 minutes for Slovakia Under-19s in their 2-2 draw with Republic of Ireland in the same competition.
