GLENN HODDLE (1975-87)

Recently voted the best Tottenham player of all time by fans on the Official Spurs Website, Glenn Hoddle was, without doubt, the most naturally gifted English player of his generation.

Hoddle lit up the Lane for 12 years with sublime skills, unequalled passing ability, his eye for a goal and that knack of being able to turn a game with a moment of magic.

He was the fulcrum in midfield of the great Spurs team of the early 1980s that won two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup, although injury ruled him out of the European final. He also appeared in the 1987 FA Cup and 1982 League Cup Finals.

Capped 53 times by England, 44 as a Spurs, making him our most capped England player. Hoddle initially joined the club on the recommendation of striker Martin Chivers in 1975 and went on to play almost 500 competitive games before moving to Monaco in 1987.

His career since has been well documented. He helped Monaco to the French title before returning to England as Swindon player-manager, onto Chelsea and then England, who he guided to the 1998 World Cup Finals. He enjoyed a successful spell at Southampton before returning to the Lane as manager between 2001-03.
Appearances/goals: 377/88 (Lg), 48/11 (FAC), 44/10 (LC), 21/1 (Eur).
