Dream come true for Harry

Sat 28 March 2015, 13:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane described his England debut goal as a ‘dream come true’.

The striker took just 79 seconds off the bench to mark his first England cap with a goal in Friday night’s 4-0 win against Lithuania in Euro 2016 qualifying at Wembley Stadium. Team-mates Ryan Mason, Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker remained on the bench.

Harry planted home a header from Raheem Sterling’s cross for England’s fourth goal in the 73rd minute.

In doing so, he became the eighth Spurs player to score on his England debut but not the fastest - that honour stays with our double-winning manager Bill Nicholson, who took just 19 seconds to score on his debut and his one and only cap against Portugal at Goodison Park back in May, 1951.

Harry’s whirlwind season continued on the biggest stage of all - he earned his first senior call on the back of 29 goals so far this season.

“It’s a dream come true to make my debut and to score as well, here at Wembley, it’s something I dreamt of as a little kid,” Harry told Sky Sports afterwards. “It’s a special night, a proud night and one I won’t forget.

“I just want to be here, playing for England, scoring goals. It’s my first taste of it and I’ve loved it. Hopefully I’ll keep doing well for club and country and we’ll see where it takes me.”

Harry was welcomed by a rousing reception from the 83,671 crowd at Wembley - and he didn’t let them down!

“To hear the fans give me a reception like that on my debut was unbelievable,” he added. “Words can’t describe how much that mean to me and to repay them with a goal was very special on a night I dreamt of as a little kid.”

Harry now travels to Italy with Ryan, Andros and Kyle for a friendly against the Azzurri at Juventus Stadium in Turin.

“I’ll be ready and raring to go and we’ll see what happens,” he said.
