Dean Richards to retire from football

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Dean Richards has announced today that he is to retire from football on medical grounds.

Dean has undergone extensive tests over the past few months which have produced strong, conclusive medical evidence that it would be harmful to his long-term health to continue in the sport.

“Football has been a huge part of my life,” Dean said, “and it has been a miserable time for me sitting out this season and awaiting test results. I am obviously deeply disappointed to be giving up the sport I love, but have discussed the results with my family and my representatives and it is the only choice. I should like to thank the Club, the medical team and my team-mates for all the support they have given me through this. I should also like to thank and acknowledge the other Clubs I have been associated with throughout my career for their continuous support."

Frank Arnesen, Sporting Director, said, “It is always a sad day when you lose a good player from the game. Dean has shown great character through a trying time and I know he was frustrated at his level of play in his last few games, when clearly he was not at his fittest. He had some fine moments for Spurs and we all wish him well in the future.”

Ben Lambourne, Managing Director of Dean’s management company, World Famous Football said, “The support of the whole Club has been tremendous. Unfortunately, given the certainty of the medical advice, Dean was given no option, but the fact that the decision was made for him doesn’t make it any easier. We now have to look to the future and give Dean the continued support we have shown throughout his football career.”
